Yaffa Cultural Arts Inc. was  created from my deep belief in the transformative power of arts, culture, and storytelling. Throughout my career, I have been committed to using the arts as a tool for education, community building, and self-actualization. As a professional storyteller in the West African tradition of the “Jeli,”  my work is rooted in inspiring, motivating, and teaching through applied storytelling.

At Yaffa, we work with educational institutions and community organizations to cultivate social-cultural awareness, academic achievement, and community engagement through the arts. Research consistently shows that participation in the arts enhances individuals’ quality of life, promotes emotional well-being, and fosters stability in communities. Studies have found that students involved in the arts are more likely to achieve higher academic outcomes, demonstrate better critical thinking skills, and show increased civic engagement.

In addition to founding Yaffa, I serve as a Doctoral Lecturer in Africana Studies at John Jay College and chair the Education Committee for the National Association of Black Storytellers. My scholarship centers on African American storytelling as a vital tool for culturally responsive education. I am proud that in recognition of Yaffa's three decades of excellence, Mayor Eric Adams proclaimed December 15, 2022, as Yaffa Cultural Arts Day in New York City.

As we move forward, I remain devoted to bringing multicultural art forms and culturally competent education modules to diverse communities, creating environments of respect, literacy, and social consciousness. Through Yaffa Cultural Arts, we continue the sacred work of ensuring that the voices and stories of the people—the true historians of humanity—are heard, honored, and celebrated.
